SEARCH ENGINES ARE BUSINESSES. They deliver a free search program for all of the web pages on the internet. They want to deliver the information that people are searching for. They have developed several programs to ensure that the sites they display in their results are the most relevant pages on the internet.
There are three parts of a search engine that you need to understand.
- The spider. These are programs that collect information about the web pages they find. They look for two main things, links between web pages, and what each page is about.
- The Index. The index is where Search Engines store the information that the spiders gather. Every time you search your results are pulled from this database.
- The Search Box and Results Pages. When you type any search in a search box the search engine will plug it into a complicated algorithm. Then they display the most relevant pages from the index on the Results page.
So, why does this matter to you? Because your potential customers are using search engines to find the products they want to buy. 56 percent of searchers only click on the first ranked search result. If you are the number one site in the listings you have more opportunities to make money.
